Shaders can add realism and cool effects, but that matters very little if the underlying game is ugly or poorly designed, i.e. Creative direction, asset design and world design have a tremendous impact on the look of a game. A lot of people are so down on the game's graphics, but I think it's already beautiful and your images capture this well.
